Dan Curtis's 1977 made-for-TV anthology horror cult-sweet DEAD OF NIGHT, is coming to DVD on January 27th from Dark Sky Videos. Previously only available in America at collector's prices and through illicit channels, this is well-worth checking out to those who like having the living shit scared out of you. Dan Curtis did the cult horror soap, DARK SHADOWS, and another cult classic tv movie, TRILOGY OF TERROR, and it's written by horror writer Richard Matheson, who wrote the novella I AM LEGEND, as well as many episodes of TWILIGHT ZONE and one of my favorite childhood memories involving John Ritter, THE DREAMER OF OZ.
The real meat and potatoes here is the last story, "Bobby," a scary-as-hell take-off on "The Monkey's Paw," starring Lee Montgomery and Joan Hackett. It's available on Youtube right now, if you're nasty, but I recommend waiting. It's shockingly terrifying considering it's a TV movie, don't underestimate it.
