It's a Goddamn Caturday miracle that I rediscovered one of my favorite Iron & Wine album - LIVE IN THAT TENT AT BONNAROO : 06/11/05. It captures the transition of Iron & Wine as the Zach Braff-friendly folk act of their early years to the more-experimental rock band they became with THE WOMAN KING EP and THE SHEPARD'S DOG and serves as a pretty good greatest hits collection. Highlights include the angry barfight anthem "Teeth in the Grass," the epic song about disappointing your mother "Upwards Over the Mountan," his cover of Neil Young's "Mr. Soul," and the Jimmy Buffet-eat-your-heart-out version of "Bird Stealing Bread." I especially love the mild Bonnaroo hippie uprising during the "fuck the man" part of the closing "Trapeze Swinger." Everybody loves meaningless expressions of rebellion taken out of context.
The show is available pretty affordably at here at LIVEBONNAROO in MP3 and FLAC formats. LARGEHEARTED BOY has his 2008 Bonnaroo performance for free (via SENDSPACE, MP3), paid for by Sam Beam's sweat and tears, but I have yet to listen.
Fuck off if you care that I called it an album, and not a digital download or bootleg. You can sell that shit to Stereogum for all I care.
